Tracey Lee Disbrow Ragains was 17 and living in Colorado Springs when she left a note for her roommates on the afternoon of July 8, 1989, saying she was taking a short walk to a nearby grocery store. That was the last time she was known to be alive. Her body was found the next day in an irrigation ditch in Weld County, southeast of Erie, Colorado. An autopsy showed multiple stab wounds to the chest.
In the months before her death Tracey had been a key witness against her former employer, Joe Linton, who faced arson and child sexual exploitation charges. Investigators considered retaliation a possible motive because her cooperation with the El Paso County District Attorney’s Office helped build the case against him. Despite reportedly strong leads early on, no arrests have ever been made and the Weld County Sheriff’s Office lists the murder as unsolved.
Does anyone have information about Tracey’s movements on July 8, 1989, or recall seeing her that afternoon?
