Denise Davenport was 20 and a junior at the University of Northern Colorado when she vanished after leaving her job at the Greeley Mall on the evening of February 24, 1985. She was driving her boyfriend’s blue Mazda RX-7 and was expected at a sorority event that night; the boyfriend later reported both her and the car missing. The vehicle was found abandoned in a dormitory parking lot on campus a few days later.
Her remains were recovered by kayakers in the South Platte River near Greeley on April 20, 1985, and her death was ruled a homicide. Investigators have interviewed more than a hundred people and followed multiple leads over the years, including a possible link to a past drug-related arrest; none produced a definitive suspect. One person with a violent criminal history was publicly named as a prime suspect by the Larimer County Sheriff, but the Weld County Sheriff’s Office said it had no information to support that claim.
No arrests have been made and little physical evidence has been reported. If anyone knew Denise, saw her the night she disappeared, or has information about the blue Mazda RX-7, please come forward.
