On the afternoon of March 15, 2019, 56-year-old Ray Anthony Little was fatally stabbed inside the Bibb County Correctional Facility in Brent, Alabama. The assault happened around 4 p.m. in a housing unit; Little was taken to a local hospital but died of his wounds.
Authorities identified 30-year-old Devarrieo Montez Shepherd as the inmate who attacked Little with a weapon. Officials reported Shepherd appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance during the incident. Correctional officers secured the area, recovered the weapon, and Shepherd was charged with murder. At the time, Little was serving a life sentence for a 2012 Mobile County conviction for first-degree robbery and kidnapping; Shepherd was serving a 30-year sentence for a 2005 Etowah County first-degree robbery conviction.
This killing was the second homicide at the facility that week; the prison was placed on lockdown and a Correctional Emergency Response Team was sent in to search for contraband and assist staff. Family and friends held visitation and a funeral in Mobile on March 23, 2019.
Does anyone have information about interactions between inmates at Bibb County Correctional Facility that week or about contraband issues there?
