A parking-space dispute outside the Cracker Barrel in Trussville, Alabama, turned deadly on March 28, 2019, when 40-year-old Randy DeWayne Young was shot and later died of his wounds. What began as an argument in the late afternoon escalated into a fatal encounter that ended his life.

Law enforcement identified a suspect quickly after the shooting and took that person into custody. Charges were initially filed at a lower level but were later upgraded to capital murder as the investigation and prosecution moved forward. Mr. Young was remembered at a service at Living Stones Temple and was buried on April 5, 2019.
