Marjorie Sue Fithian, 23, was found dead on a gravel road about 50 miles from Denver on June 24, 1975. She had a gunshot wound to the head; her 18-month-old son was found beside her, unharmed, clutching her hand. A spent .25 caliber casing was recovered at the scene and her suitcase was located further down the road; a phone number in the suitcase led investigators to her mother.
Investigators pursued multiple theories over the years: that a drug deal gone wrong was involved because of her past marijuana use; that she had been hitchhiking and attacked by a stranger; or that a serial offender was responsible. A local drug dealer once confessed to involvement and implicated another man, but he later recanted and investigators concluded his initial statement was fabricated after he had seen case details. Weld County charged Jerry Eugene Walker with first-degree murder, but those charges were dismissed for lack of evidence.
The case remains unsolved. Does anyone have information about Marjorie’s movements in Denver or along the route to Greeley on June 24, 1975?
