Jerry Lee James Jr was 36 when he was fatally shot after a dispute inside a Jasper, Alabama mobile home on December 10, 2020. He had been visiting a woman at a residence in the Domaine Mobile Home Community on Vallon Circle when an uninvited man, identified as Jose Martinez, arrived and a confrontation developed. The struggle escalated and James suffered multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to UAB Hospital in Birmingham in critical condition and died of his injuries on December 11, 2020.
Martinez fled the scene in a vehicle but was located and taken into custody in Jasper shortly afterward without further conflict. He was initially charged with attempted murder; after James’s death the Walker County District Attorney’s Office upgraded charges to include intentional murder, first-degree robbery, first-degree domestic violence, and third-degree domestic violence, with the woman who had been present treated as a victim.
If anyone saw activity around Vallon Circle on the evening of December 10, 2020 or has information about the altercation, please share what is known.
