Camari DeVaughn Tyus was 17 when he was killed by a gunshot on the afternoon of February 4, 2021, in Center Point, Alabama. Deputies were called to a home in the 300 block of 19th Court NE after shots were reported; Tyus was found dead at the scene. Investigators say the shooting began during a family gathering that turned violent—witnesses reported an argument that escalated into an altercation and a gun was fired, striking Tyus.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office worked with the District Attorney’s Office and obtained warrants for Curtis Williams of Birmingham. Williams was arrested and charged with manslaughter, booked into jail, and later released on a $30,000 bond. Authorities noted Tyus and Williams were not directly related.
If anyone was at that gathering or has information about what happened that afternoon, please share what is known.
