On April 17, 2021, 24-year-old Katlynn Marie Jones was found dead at her home in Jacksonville, Alabama, having sustained multiple gunshot and knife wounds. Police were alerted after the suspect’s mother reported that her son, 21-year-old Alex L. Haynes, had confessed to killing Jones. Jones’s 4-year-old son, Mason, was also shot in the head and flown to a hospital in Birmingham in critical condition.
Anniston police located Haynes the same day, and a pursuit that crossed from Calhoun County into Talladega County ended when he stopped in a field and died of a self-inflicted gunshot. Authorities identified Haynes as Jones’s boyfriend and have not released a motive for the attack.
Katlynn Jones is remembered as a cosmetologist and Alexandria High School graduate who loved to dance, sing, spend time outdoors and was devoted to her son. If anyone knew Katlynn, her routines, or has information about the events leading up to April 17, please come forward.
