Sean Michael Barrett, 33, was killed in a shooting in the parking lot of Dixie Pulp and Paper in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on March 15, 2021. The incident happened during a late-night shift change when workers were arriving or leaving. Barrett was shot multiple times by a coworker, 27-year-old Demorius Mondreal Polke, who then turned the gun on himself and died at the scene.

Law enforcement arrived at 11:32 p.m. and found both men deceased. The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit has said the two were employees of the plant, that no other suspects are believed to be involved, and that there is no ongoing danger to the public. Authorities continue to investigate the motive.

Barrett was a husband and father of one; family, friends, and coworkers described him as having a big heart. Dixie Pulp and Paper issued a statement expressing grief over the loss of two associates and offered counseling and support to employees.

If anyone who worked at Dixie Pulp and Paper that night or knew Sean has information that could help clarify what happened, please come forward.
