On the evening of October 6, 2023, Prentice Lamone Bibbs, a 50-year-old Black man from Pleasant Grove, was killed in a hit-and-run on the Bessemer Super Highway near Sugar Ray Drive in the Midfield area of Alabama. He was struck just before 8:30 p.m.; the initial vehicle fled the scene and Bibbs was then struck by other vehicles on the busy highway. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team opened an investigation focused on identifying the driver who first hit Bibbs and left him vulnerable in the roadway. No suspects have been publicly identified and no arrests have been announced. Funeral services were held October 20, 2023, at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Bessemer, with burial at Oakland Memorial Gardens.
If anyone saw the collision or has information about the vehicle or driver who fled, can you share what you know with investigators?
