On the evening of Friday, June 16, 2023, 22-year-old Quontavius Janard Cooper of Anniston was shot and killed at the intersection of East Battle Street and Haynes Street in Talladega. An altercation at that location ended in gunfire; another person was injured in the same incident.

Talladega Police Department and Anniston Police Department investigators identified a suspect and on July 5, 2023 arrested 23-year-old Daviontae Q’Shawn Malik Snodgress of Anniston. Snodgress was charged with capital murder and booked into the Talladega County Jail, being held without bond pending further proceedings. No motive or details about the dispute that led to the shooting have been released.
