Deunte Jurrell Winston was 23 when he was found unresponsive on a porch in the 4300 block of 44th Avenue North in Birmingham on May 25, 2023. He had suffered a gunshot wound and was taken to UAB Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Reports say an altercation with another male occurred just before the fatal shot; that man allegedly fired and fled the scene.

On June 6, 2023, police arrested a 17-year-old male and charged him with Winston’s murder. Because the suspect is a juvenile, authorities did not publicly identify him.

If anyone remembers the area that morning or has information about the altercation, please come forward to help Winston’s family and investigators.
