On March 25, 2024, 45-year-old Evet Michelle Tower was shot and killed by a Tuscaloosa police officer at the Aspen Village Apartments after officers responded around 4:00 a.m. to a distress call from her adult daughter. Family members say Tower, who had been struggling with mental health issues, attempted to stab her daughter with a kitchen knife, and that act prompted the call for help.
Officers confronted a volatile situation that ended when an officer discharged their weapon. Tower was struck and pronounced dead at the scene. The Tuscaloosa Police Department told the family body camera footage would be made available and placed the officer on administrative leave. Authorities said a preliminary review of the footage led them to conclude they do not believe the shooting was unjustified, and the investigation will be presented to the district attorney’s office.
Family members describe Tower as a sweet person who loved her children and grandchildren and was not known to be harmful. Does anyone have information about the morning of March 25 at Aspen Village Apartments or about Tower’s condition that could help clarify what happened?
