In the early morning hours of June 29, 2024, a violent confrontation on Stardust Drive in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, left 51-year-old Reggie Coverson dead and two other men shot. According to the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit, Coverson was identified as the initial aggressor and shot a 23-year-old man around 3:14 a.m., wounding him non‑fatally. A 36-year-old bystander then intervened and fatally shot Coverson. Emergency crews found two men with gunshot wounds; the younger man was taken to a local hospital and is expected to recover, while Coverson was pronounced dead at the scene.
Multiple witnesses reportedly corroborated that Coverson instigated the violence. The 36-year-old who shot Coverson was questioned and, after investigation and review by the District Attorney’s Office, the shooting was deemed to appear to be an act of self‑defense. No charges had been filed at that time, and the matter was scheduled to be presented to a Tuscaloosa County Grand Jury for further review. If anyone witnessed the shooting or knew the individuals involved, can you share what you saw or know?
