Two women were found shot inside a Kenai residence on the morning of July 21, 2019. White/Caucasian Lisa Rutzebeck, 39, and her mother, Rachelle M. Armstrong, 60, were discovered dead in the living room of their home on California Avenue after neighbors reported hearing sudden cracks of gunfire. Police say a witness saw a man inside moments before two shots rang out and that the suspect fled.

Investigators moved quickly, collecting witness accounts and tracing movements in and out of the apartment. Within days authorities identified a local 25-year-old man as a suspect and on July 24, 2019 arrested Masonn Byrd of Kenai, charging him with two counts of first-degree murder. Police later reported locating a handgun consistent with the weapon sought; it was sent to the state crime lab. Prosecutors alleged a possible motive involving a drug debt, with one victim said to have owed money to the suspect.

No publicly reported verdict or sentence appears in the contemporaneous coverage. Does anyone have information about Lisa or Rachelle, their movements that week, or details that could help explain what happened that morning?
