Sue Luna was 23 when she left the Matanuska–Susitna Valley to work as a dancer in Anchorage in May 1982. She told people she had arranged a $300 date after meeting a man in the nightlife scene and went to meet him near Alice’s 210 Café in Palmer on May 26, 1982; that is the date recorded as her death. Her sister Roberta Moorehead reported her missing to Anchorage police four days later, noting the planned meeting for cash.

Nearly two years later, on April 27, 1984, human remains recovered from a gravesite east of the Old Knik River bridge were identified as Sue Luna by dental records. The burial site matched a pattern of marked graves uncovered in the Knik River area.
