A social gathering at the Midtown Apartments in Midland City, Alabama, on the night of August 22, 2024, ended with 30-year-old Terrance Lewis Jr. shot multiple times and later dying of his wounds. According to court accounts, a verbal dispute between Lewis and attendee Mary Jackson escalated into a physical struggle; prosecutors say Lewis threw Jackson to the ground and she then walked to her vehicle. Jackson is alleged to have returned and fired a 9mm handgun into the gathering, striking Lewis seven times.
Jackson was arrested and charged with one count of murder. She tells a different story in court, saying Lewis was the aggressor who pushed and struck her, removed her wig, followed her to her car, and made threats that placed her and her child in fear; she also says her child was in the car. No firearm was found on Lewis. The defense notes Jackson’s clean record and a pistol permit, while the prosecution stresses she admitted not seeing a weapon and questions why she did not flee or call police, arguing that firing into a crowd posed a grave public danger.
Are there witnesses from the Midtown Apartments gathering who can clarify what happened before the shots were fired?
