Christopher Bernard Womack, 52, was shot and killed the afternoon of Friday, June 14, 2024, at The District of Phenix City apartments on College Drive. Police and the Russell County Coroner pronounced him dead at the scene at 2:43 P.M.; his body was sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences for autopsy.

Investigators identified a suspect as Christopher Justin Womack, the victim’s 22-year-old son, who was taken into custody and charged with murder. Authorities said the investigation remained ongoing and additional charges could be possible.
