Fifteen-year-old Allen AJ Colvin died of gunshot wounds on June 15, 2024, two weeks after being shot on June 1, 2024, at the Jim Minor Garden Homes in Selma, Alabama. A ninth-grader at Selma High School, he was remembered by the superintendent as kind, enthusiastic, and dedicated to his studies; funeral services were scheduled at the Selma High School auditorium.

The Selma Police Department opened a homicide investigation and has identified persons of interest, but no arrests have been announced and no suspect names have been released. In response to the shooting, the Selma Housing Authority took over management of the Jim Minor homes and the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office increased patrols in the area.

Anyone who knew AJ, witnessed the June 1 incident, or has information that could help the ongoing investigation is asked to come forward.
