Tyler Garrett Hayden, 25, disappeared after a nighttime boating collision near Descanso Bay off Catalina Island on September 6, 2015. A dinghy he was in struck a 17-foot vessel at about 1:15 a.m.; three other passengers were rescued, one person died in the collision, and Hayden was reported missing. Authorities with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department handled the response.

Hayden was a white male, 5 feet 10 inches, about 170 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes. He was last seen wearing a black shirt. Originally from Washington, he graduated from Shorecrest High School and the University of California at Santa Barbara and was working as a financial advisor at the time. Despite search efforts his body was never recovered and he is presumed to have drowned; memorial services were held.
