On the night of April 12, 2024, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, 18-year-old Jacob Crumpton was fatally shot during what authorities say was an attempted robbery. The shooting happened just after 11 p.m. on Reece Boulevard and ended when the vehicle Crumpton was driving crashed into a house. Deputies found Crumpton and a 17-year-old male, Carderrius Murry, both with gunshot wounds; Crumpton was pronounced dead at the scene and Murry was taken to a hospital in critical condition and later died.

Investigators indicated the shooting grew out of an attempted robbery and suggested one of the two victims may have been the target while the other was considered a suspect in that robbery. A juvenile acquaintance of Crumpton was taken into custody and charged with two counts of felony murder and one count of robbery in connection with both deaths.

Crumpton, who would have turned 19 in November, was described by his mother, Jalena Chambliss, as a big ball of energy who was lovable and all about family; he was the father of a three-month-old daughter. Funeral services were held April 26, 2024, at Porter St. Paul C.M.E. Church, with burial at Cedar Oak Memorial Park.

If anyone knew Jacob, Carderrius, or has information about the events on Reece Boulevard that night, please share what you know.
