Thirteen-year-old Timothy Sampson, a student at Minor Middle School, was shot inside a residence on 22nd Street South in Bessemer during an argument on a Tuesday in October 2023. He was critically injured and died Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Children’s of Alabama hospital, the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office confirmed.

Police described the incident as a domestic dispute and arrested 53-year-old Halvidas Hall at the scene. Hall was initially charged with assault and held on a one million dollar bond; after Timothy’s death the Bessemer Police Department said the matter was being investigated as a homicide.
