A late-night argument at the Camelot Apartments on Black Bears Way ended in homicide on August 18, 2023. Sherod Lanell Parris, 32, was found dead from gunshot wounds when police responded about 10:30 p.m. The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit took over the investigation.
Witnesses and evidence at the scene quickly focused attention on 40-year-old Charles Darron Richardson. Richardson, who already faced outstanding warrants for receiving stolen property, was located the next morning after a multiagency search by the Tuscaloosa Police Department and the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force. He was arrested, charged with murder, and — because of a prior felony conviction — charged with being a certain person prohibited from possessing a firearm. He was booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail and denied bond under Aniah’s Law.
What did anyone nearby see or hear that night at Camelot Apartments that could help clarify how the dispute escalated to gunfire?
