In the early hours of Monday, May 1, 2023, gunfire on Jones Street in Greensboro, Alabama, left 27-year-old Nicholas Nickson fatally shot. Officers arriving at about 12:53 a.m. found Nickson, a resident of nearby Sawyerville, deceased at the scene.

The Greensboro Police Department asked the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s State Bureau of Investigation to assist. SBI special agents identified a suspect and on Tuesday, May 2, 2023, authorities arrested 23-year-old Keoviance Kentrell Scott-Golsby of Sawyerville; he was charged with murder and booked into the Hale County Detention Facility. The SBI said the investigation remained active and that additional arrests were expected. The 4th Circuit District Attorney’s Office, the Hale County Sheriff’s Office, and the Greensboro Police Department assisted the SBI.
