William Thomas Mckay, 53, a developer for the Port of Redwood City, was last seen in Santa Clara, California on January 23, 1993. A housemate reported him missing that day. His vehicle was found the next day at Vista Point in Marin County at the north end of the Golden Gate Bridge with a note indicating he was despondent and felt unable to cope.
At the time Mckay disappeared his development business was losing money and his daughter was undergoing surgery for cancer; family and investigators noted it was uncharacteristic that he was not at the hospital during her operation. Investigators have considered that he may have jumped from the Golden Gate Bridge, though no body was recovered, and there remains the possibility he chose to disappear and start a new life elsewhere.
He is described as a White male, 6 feet 2 inches, 220 pounds, with gray hair, blue eyes and glasses; he held a bachelor’s degree from Santa Clara University and a law degree from Lincoln University. Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to contact the Santa Clara Police Department.
