Sylvester Leon Cobb Sr., a 31-year-old Black man, was shot and killed on July 18, 2007, outside his home in the 1400 block of Eufaula Avenue in Birmingham, Alabama. Officers arrived about 10:20 p.m. and found Cobb on the front steps suffering multiple gunshot wounds; those injuries proved fatal and the incident was investigated as a homicide.

Cobb was remembered by family and the Bessemer community as a devoted husband and father to his wife, Katressa Cobb, and four sons, Kordarrius Wyatt, Johnathan Boykins, Je'rae Brown, and Sylvester Cobb Jr. He coached the Bessemer Tigers tee-ball team as Coach Vester and was honored at funeral services on July 24, 2007, at New Jerusalem Baptist Church, with burial at Highland Memorial. Publicly accessible reporting does not show an arrest, charges, trial, or conviction tied to his killing, and his case appeared in cold-case listings as late as October 2022 seeking information about who shot him.

Key questions remain about who approached the residence that night and whether the shooting was targeted or the result of an encounter. If anyone knew Sylvester Cobb, his movements on July 18, 2007, or saw activity on Eufaula Avenue that evening, please share what is known with investigators.
