In the early morning hours of February 27, 2023, a gathering of teenagers at a residence near Ceasarville Road in Deatsville, Alabama, ended with the fatal shooting of 19-year-old Christian Baker, known to friends as Jace. Deputies from the Elmore County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call about 4:20 a.m. and found Baker with a gunshot wound to his groin; he died despite medical efforts.

Authorities say 39-year-old Wetumpka man Jason Gosdin arrived after getting a call from his ex-wife about their teenage daughter. An altercation occurred at the home; Gosdin is accused of pistol-whipping another 19-year-old outside the residence and then firing a handgun into a vehicle. The single shot struck Baker, who was seated in the back. Gosdin reportedly fled but was located and taken into custody the same morning and was initially charged with murder.
