Zoe E. Penrod, a 39-year-old mother, was last seen on December 31, 2023, in the Myers Flat area of Humboldt County, California. She is described as a white female, 5 feet 5 inches tall, about 140 pounds, with red hair and green eyes. She may use the nickname Rhonda.
Penrod’s fiancé, David Boyett, reported her missing on January 1, 2024, after she walked away from their home on Boy Scout Road. In the weeks before she vanished she had reportedly been acting erratically and was believed to be suffering from postpartum psychosis; she had been hospitalized briefly and released. A surveillance camera a few hundred feet from the residence captured her walking north on the Avenue of the Giants just before 8:30 a.m. on December 31, wearing a beige or light-colored bathrobe, an orange item of clothing underneath, and green shoes. Her wallet and cell phone were left at home.
The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office conducted extensive ground searches in the woods off Highway 254, used search and rescue teams and requested an aircraft. There have been reported sightings in southern Humboldt County but no confirmed leads; the investigation remains open. If anyone saw Zoe on December 31, 2023, or has information about her movements that morning, please come forward.
