Roy Prifogle, 52, of Pine Cove, California, went missing after a hike on March 4, 2020. He left home about 1:00 p.m. and was last seen at the Pine Cove Market at 6:30 p.m. that evening wearing jeans and carrying a red backpack. His car was later found parked on Acorn Lane at the head of the Webster Trail.
A six-day search involving about 150 people from multiple mountain rescue units and volunteer teams used air support, drones, bloodhounds and K-9s trained for both living and deceased searches. The effort covered the terrain eight to ten hours a day but was hampered by bad weather. Searchers recovered Prifogle’s red backpack off the Webster Trail with pockets zipped closed; it contained his phone, a fire hat, snacks and an empty juice bottle. The phone’s last photos were of a creek taken the day he disappeared.
Prifogle was familiar with the Webster Trail from childhood; the route is strenuous and descends to the North Fork of the San Jacinto River. He had suffered a transient ischemic attack several months before vanishing. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department continues to investigate and he remains a missing person.
Did anyone who knew Roy or who was on or near the Webster Trail that day see him or notice anything unusual?
