K’Vion Lamont Ruffin, 23, was shot on 17th Street in Sheffield, Alabama, on April 16, 2022, and taken to a Huntsville hospital with life-threatening injuries. He died there three days later, on April 19, 2022. Ruffin’s family chose to donate his organs after his death.
The man who surrendered to authorities was identified as Andre Quashon Horacin. He was initially charged with attempted murder, but the charge was upgraded to murder after Ruffin died. At trial in Colbert County, Horacin’s defense argued he acted in self-defense, saying Ruffin appeared to be reaching for a firearm in his waistband; defense witnesses testified they believed Ruffin was reaching for a gun. The defense also raised concerns about missing evidence.
After less than two hours of deliberation, a jury in April 2024 returned a not guilty verdict, acquitting Horacin. The verdict prompted relief from Horacin’s family and outrage from Ruffin’s family. Does anyone have information about the shooting or knew K’Vion Ruffin that could help clarify what happened?
