Gavin Ryan Hargrove, 20, was found dead inside a residence on County Road 217 in Moulton, Alabama on Christmas Eve 2021. He had suffered a fatal gunshot wound, and the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office opened an intensive homicide investigation.

Investigators focused on 21-year-old Timothy Dakota McCary of Moulton, who lived at the home where Hargrove’s body was discovered. A multiagency search for McCary took place on Christmas Day; tips placed him in the Langtown Community and later on County Road 240, where he ran on foot and was taken into custody. McCary was arrested and charged with capital murder and was booked into the Lawrence County Jail.
