On December 24, 2021, Rodney Dale Gardner, 41, was killed in his Meridianville, Alabama home in a murder-suicide that also claimed the life of his 14-year-old son, Caleb Gardner. The fatal shooting occurred during an argument in a bedroom on Bermuda Lakes Drive. A 16-year-old daughter who was in the house heard the dispute, ran out after hearing gunfire, and called for help.

Deputies from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office found both Rodney and Caleb in the same room with gunshot wounds. Investigators determined Caleb shot his father and then himself; no other people were involved and no arrests were made. The family and community were left grieving after what had been a holiday gathering turned tragic.
