On November 14, 2021, 47-year-old Quentinna LaSha James of the Opelika area was found dead of a gunshot wound at the couple’s home in the 6000 block of U.S. Highway 29 in Cusseta. Authorities say the discovery followed the death of her husband, 42-year-old David James, who was found deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound at a residence on County Road 114 in Lafayette.

Preliminary findings reported a sequence in which David James fatally shot Quentinna and then traveled to Lafayette, where he took his own life. Both bodies were sent to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery for further examination. Family members named in reports include a son, mother, brother, and sister, and an obituary described her as a beloved family member whose life was cut short.

What details from the area or anyone who knew the family might help clarify the events leading up to that day?
