On June 16, 2021, 45-year-old Yaphet Hunter was shot and killed at a dirt pit on Friendship Road in Daphne, Alabama. Hunter was a contract worker at the site and was involved in an altercation with a co-worker that escalated into gunfire; deputies found him with a fatal gunshot wound and he was pronounced dead at the scene despite emergency response and an air ambulance.
Investigators identified co-worker Marcus Jermain Stallworth, 44, of Mobile, as the suspect. Surveillance footage from the business reportedly captured the incident. Stallworth fled the scene in a vehicle with another person; that other individual was later located and questioned. A manhunt that involved the U.S. Marshals led to Stallworth’s arrest the next morning in the Maryvale area of Mobile. He was booked into the Baldwin County Corrections Facility on a felony murder charge, and the matter was to be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for further action.
The precise nature of the workplace dispute that preceded the shooting has not been disclosed. Does anyone have additional information about Hunter, his work at the site, or witnesses to the altercation?
