Barbara Smith Vanwinckle, 61, was last seen May 21, 1994, in the 500 block of Ocean Breeze Drive in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Her green 1993 Ford Crown Victoria, Delaware plate 83783, was found abandoned and unlocked on June 9, 1994, in the Mid-Sussex Shopping Center parking lot at Rose’s Department Store in Millsboro. Her keys were on the driver’s side floor and her purse, covered by a sweater, remained on the passenger seat with no personal items missing.

Her disappearance was reported by a close friend rather than the live-in boyfriend, a detail investigators called suspicious. A search of the shared residence turned up bloodstains in two bedrooms, and authorities classified the case as a homicide. A prime suspect was identified but died by suicide about two months after Vanwinckle was last seen. Law enforcement continues to investigate and seeks to resolve her disappearance and recover her remains.

Did anyone know Barbara’s routines, friendships, or where she might have gone on May 21, 1994?
