Family described her as dependable and not someone who would simply vanish without contact. Her live-in fiancé, Harold Devine Austin, reported that she left their home after an argument and that he last saw her on November 30, 2003, though court documents allege she was shot during an argument on November 28, 2003.

Essential items were left behind in the residence, including clothing, her purse and wallet, credit cards, car keys and driver’s license, which alarmed relatives and investigators. Witnesses reported hearing Fye yell No, Devine, no! followed by a gunshot, and multiple witnesses said they never saw her again.
