Unique RaQuel-Leona Harris was 24 when she vanished from her apartment in the 2400 block of Hartford Street SE in Washington, D.C. She had moved into that unit only weeks earlier and was raising two young sons; a young relative was staying overnight when she disappeared. The children were put to bed and, sometime overnight, she vanished without waking them.

There was no obvious forced entry and no clear signs of a struggle inside the residence. Her eyeglasses and purse were left behind, while her cell phone and keys were missing. Because she had poor vision, family and investigators have said it would have been difficult for her to navigate outside safely without glasses, a detail that has made some fear she did not leave on her own. A Metropolitan Police Department bulletin described her as a Black woman about 5 feet 7 inches and roughly 123–130 pounds, with brown eyes, short brown hair and tattoos on her lower back and left arm. She was last seen wearing a white shirt, gray pants and a silver chain fastened with a safety pin.

Her family kept searching and speaking publicly about the toll her absence took on her children and on them. A D.C. Superior Court later granted a petition for presumption of death and a death certificate was issued. Does anyone who knew Unique or lived near Hartford Street SE that night have information that could help explain what happened?
