On the afternoon of March 5, 2021, 20-year-old Javion McGuffie was fatally shot around 2 p.m. in Greensboro, Alabama. Authorities described the killing as what they believe was a gang-related incident, and the Alabama State Bureau of Investigation took the lead on the homicide.
Police identified 16-year-old Chardarius Moore as the suspect in McGuffie’s death. Moore had recently been released from a juvenile facility after alleged involvement in a previous Greensboro shooting the prior fall and was also a suspect in a separate Perry County shooting. It is alleged Moore was driven away from the scene by his uncle, Calvin Maiden Jr., in a getaway car later found in nearby Uniontown.
About two hours after McGuffie was killed, his brother Jmar McGuffie reportedly went to Moore’s residence and opened fire. Moore’s 89-year-old grandmother was grazed by a bullet and treated at a hospital; that subsequent shooting was handled by the Greensboro Police Department. Anyone with information about Javion McGuffie’s death or the related incidents is asked to come forward.
