Christopher Murphy, a 48-year-old Black man, was shot and killed in the early morning hours of June 2, 2020, on the 400 block of King Street in Selma, Alabama. Police found Murphy suffering from multiple gunshot wounds; he was pronounced dead at the scene after reportedly exiting a vehicle and collapsing. Witnesses said the fatal shooting followed an argument with several people and that a man wearing an orange shirt and a mask approached Murphy’s vehicle, shot him, then stood over him and fired additional shots.

No suspects have been publicly identified and no arrests have been made. In February 2021 the governor announced a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction. Graveside services were held June 13, 2020, at Lorenzo Harrison Memorial Gardens in Selma.

If anyone has information about the June 2, 2020 shooting on King Street or recognizes the description of the masked shooter in an orange shirt, please come forward.
