A confrontation between two men at a Sheffield residence turned deadly on June 1, 2020. Jonathan Eugene Nipper, 38, was found wounded by gunshot at a home on South Columbia Avenue. He was transported to Helen Keller Hospital but died from his injuries.

Authorities identified 39-year-old Mario Leshawn Richardson as the suspected shooter. Richardson turned himself in to the Colbert County Sheriff’s Department and was charged with murder. Law enforcement indicated the shooting followed a history of prior trouble between the two men.
