Terence Antwan Hayes, 35, was found with multiple gunshot wounds near the intersection of 10th Avenue South and Fontaine Road in Phenix City, Alabama, on April 28, 2020. He was taken to Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital and died just before midnight. A Seale, Alabama resident, Hayes worked in auto body and paint and graduated from Central High School.

The Phenix City Police Department opened a homicide investigation and sought public assistance. The investigation led to an arrest of a man from Columbus, Georgia, who was later charged with Hayes’s murder. In April 2023 that defendant went to trial; after evidence and deliberations the jury was hopelessly deadlocked and the judge declared a mistrial. There have been no further public announcements about a retrial or other developments.

If anyone knew Terence or has information about the shooting, please come forward to assist investigators.
