On Thanksgiving night, November 28, 2019, 42-year-old Latonya Taylor Rasheed was shot and later died at Decatur Morgan Hospital. Family remembered her as affectionate and family-oriented, known as Bootie, who enjoyed playing cards, cooking, and spending time with her three children and six grandchildren.

Decatur police were called to a residence at 204 4th Avenue NW around 10 p.m. and found Ms. Rasheed with a gunshot wound. Detectives identified Abdullah Musafa El-Sayyed as the primary suspect, located him at the residence, and took him into custody. He was arrested and charged with murder and booked into the Morgan County Jail on a $150,000 bond. Investigators described the shooting as an isolated incident and said the two were acquainted.
