Sarah Cooper, 33, was mortally wounded on February 16, 2019, at a home on the 500 block of Pullum Street in Samson, a small town in south Alabama. Officers and emergency responders found her with what was believed to be a single gunshot wound; she was transported to Wiregrass Medical Center in Geneva but did not survive.

Investigators quickly treated the scene as a homicide and named a person of interest within hours: James Chadwick Green, identified as a former Samson police officer. Authorities said Green fled the scene, warned he should be considered armed and dangerous, and officers circulated information about a red 2017 Toyota truck. Children who had been with Cooper were reported safe.

A tip led deputies to locate Green on February 17 on Interstate 65 near Southern Boulevard in Montgomery County. A short pursuit ended there and authorities say Green shot himself; he was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead that evening. With Green dead, no arrest or court proceedings could take place; investigators continued documenting the scene and reconstructing Cooper’s final moments.

If anyone knew Sarah Cooper, her movements that day, or saw the red 2017 Toyota truck, please share information with investigators.
