Blake Jefferson Underwood, a 19-year-old University of Alabama student from Montgomery, was shot and killed in Tuscaloosa on November 24, 2018. Initially described as an accidental shooting, investigators later reclassified the death as a homicide after the probe developed new information.

The killing drew a strong community response; candlelight vigils were held and Underwood was remembered as a former St. James running back with a vibrant personality. The Tuscaloosa Police Department charged Carlos Heard with murder in connection with the case, a development that shifted the investigation toward a criminal prosecution.
