A domestic-access-road dispute in Adger, Alabama, turned fatal on July 22, 2018, when 29-year-old Andrew Jonathan Carroll was shot to death. The incident occurred along an access road to a gas well in the 4100 block of Valley Ford Road after an argument between Carroll and 36-year-old Scott Allen Pennington. Pennington contacted the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office shortly after 10:30 a.m., reporting that he had shot Carroll, and led deputies to where Carroll’s body had been left.

Pennington initially told investigators he acted in self-defense, but detectives subsequently uncovered evidence that conflicted with that account. Based on that evidence, Pennington was arrested and charged with the murder of Jonathan Carroll and booked into the Jefferson County Jail on a $75,000 bond. The family of Andrew Jonathan Carroll was left to mourn his death.
