Victoria Lyn Deputy, a 49-year-old White woman, was killed in a burst of gunfire that shattered the early-morning quiet of Ragland, Alabama, on June 28, 2018. Deputies who responded to a home on Broken Arrow Drive found her dead in a back room of the house and a man, identified as Billy James Deputy, wounded by a gunshot to the abdomen in the front of the home. Authorities treated the scene as a deadly double shooting with one victim killed and another left fighting to survive.

News reports from the day identified Victoria as the deceased and said law enforcement were actively investigating. Bruce E. Bates Jr., 26, was taken into custody that same day in connection with the shooting and was reported to have been charged with murder in Victoria’s death and attempted murder in the case of the wounded man; one report cautioned charges could change as facts were sorted out.

If anyone knew Victoria or has information about what happened that morning on Broken Arrow Drive, please come forward to assist the investigation.
