Kevin L. Winston, a 48-year-old Black man from Gadsden, Alabama, was found fatally shot in the back seat of a vehicle on January 7, 2018. The discovery on a cold January afternoon was treated as a homicide and prompted an immediate investigation.

Authorities identified Peter Lucky Gargone as a suspect and took him into custody; he was charged with capital murder in connection with Winston’s death.
