On the evening of November 24, 2017, Jefferson County deputies responded to a Hudson Avenue home in the Eastern Valley area near Bessemer and found 66-year-old Janice Hopkins Stamps with a gunshot wound. She was taken to a local hospital but did not survive.
Investigators say the shooting followed a family dispute. Authorities allege Janice had been arguing with her 62-year-old brother, Thomas Tommy Hopkins, who reportedly retrieved a handgun and shot her. Deputies arrested Thomas Hopkins at the scene; he was charged with murder and booked into the Jefferson County Jail with bond set at $75,000.
What does anyone who knew Janice or the family remember about her and that Thanksgiving gathering?
