Late on the night of September 24, 2017, 26-year-old Rodrequis Antwon Green was shot in the parking lot of the Chevron at 3640 Lloyd Noland Parkway in Fairfield, Alabama. He was taken to UAB Hospital, underwent surgery, and was pronounced dead at 1:27 a.m. on September 25. Fairfield police treated the scene as a homicide and described the shooting as a drive-by.
Within days authorities arrested a young Birmingham resident, Demetrius Coach, charging him with capital murder after he was found hiding in a crawlspace at a residence in the 3900 block of Court K in Ensley. Police reports referenced in local accounts say Coach believed Green had called him a name, while witnesses reported Green had been talking to someone in a car, suggesting a misunderstanding preceded the shooting. No further court outcomes are detailed in the available reports.
If anyone was at the Chevron that night or has information about what happened in the parking lot, please share what is remembered.
