James W. Byrd Jr., 36, was fatally shot on August 14, 2017, in a shopping center in Anniston, Alabama. The public space where he was killed made the slaying especially shocking for the community and prompted a criminal investigation.

Investigators identified LeQuinton King as a suspect. U.S. Marshals apprehended him and he was charged with murder in Byrd’s death. King was held at the Calhoun County Jail and released in November 2017 on $500,000 bond.

While out on that bond, King was arrested in Mobile and charged with murder in an unrelated fatal shooting; prosecutors in Calhoun County then moved to have his bond in the Byrd case revoked.

If anyone witnessed the shooting at the Anniston shopping center or has information about Byrd’s final movements that day, please come forward.
